First time offshore: what to bring
A short checklist from the crew, from sun protection to seasickness tablets and how to handle your first big fish.

All the fishing gear is on board — rods, reels, tackle, bait and life jackets. What you bring is about staying comfortable for eight hours in the sun.
Bring
- A hat and sunglasses
- Sunscreen, higher factor than you think you need
- Seasickness tablets if you are sensitive to motion — take them before boarding, not after
- A light long-sleeve shirt
- A dry bag or ziplock for your phone
Leave behind
Hard-soled shoes and anything you would be upset to get wet.
Your first big fish
Let the crew set the drag. Keep the rod up, wind on the way down, and do not try to muscle it — the fish will tire before you do if you let the gear do the work.
